Holiday Food Drive for the Ministerium of Jersey Shore, PA
Trinity United Methodist Church, St. John’s Luthern Church and The Grace Fellowship banded together to form the Jersey Shore Area Ministerium. The Ministerium, operating in the Trinity U.M. Church, serves a need in our local community to assist those going though a rough time…whether it is a hot meal at lunch, a warm place to gather when its cold, a retreat from the heat or a three day emergency supply of food, the Ministerium doors are open all year long.
There is one time of year when it seems that some members of the community need a little extra help …the Christmas holidays. So, Jersey Shore Steel holds a food drive to help stock the pantry! From early November until the middle of December, the employees collect non-perishable food items and grocery gift cards to donate to the Ministerium. There is something to be said about having to fire up the forklift truck to load all the food boxes in a panel truck!
Adopt-a-Family
In years past, The Love Center of Jersey Shore would receive applications from families that need a helping hand during the Christmas holidays. Since The Love Center closed its doors in September 2014, the Jersey Shore Area Ministerium will pick up where the Love Center left off! The process will be the same as it has been for many years ~ after the vetting process is complete, Jersey Shore Steel is assigned a family number and then given particulars about each child in the family…name, age, clothing sizes, needs & likes, along with gift suggestions. For years, our employees have dug deep into their pockets to anonymously ensure “our family” receives individual gifts and family gifts on Christmas morning.
United Way
Jersey Shore Steel is proud to be a yearly participant in our county United Way campaign. Our monetary contributiions have risen steadily over the last four years. For the 2013-2014 Employee Campaign, Jersey Shore Steel was recognized as a Top 25 contributor! We were also elevated to a Bronze Level Member of the President’s Club by United Way! JSS is very fortunate to have such giving and caring employees!
Other Community Activities
Whether it is a banner for a youth baseball team, sponsoring a hole for the annual Jersey Shore Hospital Golf Tournament, or giving to the Special Olympics, Jersey Shore Steel gives back to our community. We also give our time to local Jr-Hi School students on “Career Shadow Day”.
